Dragonfly 1000

Preceded by 40 years of design and production experience, Quorning Boats turned out a totally unique, high performance luxury cruiser. The exquisite live-onboard accommodation surpass the highest degrees of quality.

Light weight and strength mark the characteristics of the Dragonfly 1000's superb construction. The high performance fractional rig and high bouyancy amas combine to produce ultra responsive control and power, while providing exemplary stability and speed. Cruising speeds climb as high as 20 knots while maintaining a maximum heealing angle of 10° only. The boat is originally equipped with full-battened mainsail and roller-furling Mylar jib by Elvström Sails. The centerboard and kick-up rudder reduces the draft to 0.55 m only - making shallow ports easily accessible.

Ingeniously laid out for single-handed sailing, an elegant Whitlok steering wheel graces the roomy teak-trimmed cockpit with all halyards, control lines and reefing pendants led aft.

Originally, the boat is equipped with the best quality Danish deck gearl, including Andersen winches, a custom-designed mainsheet and battencar systems by Frederiksen. All lines across the cabin roof top are enclosed, giving the Dragonfly 1000 a sleek elegant appeal.

In two minutes, the Swing Wing system reduces the beam from 7.60 m to 3.80 m - making the boat easy to dock and manouver.

Dragonfly 1000 Swing Wing was built between 1991 - 2002. In total 42 boats built.

Design & Performance

There are no false luxury onboard the Dragonfly 1000 - only perfect combination of space, light and an exceptional talent for texture and materials. Every aspect of your comfort is taken into consideration with a generous spacious interior that foremost provides a livable boat - functional and creative.

The Dragonfly 1000 offers 1.85 m standing headroom. A large forward cabin complimented with Danish quality furnishing and separate head withe pressurized hot and cold water contribute to spending long periods of time onboard the Dragonfly 1000. A fully equipped galley graced with exquisite teak cabinetry is high-lighted by a wide and clear companionway. Ingenious little nooks are used to give extra stowage, whereas efficient halogen lamps are positioned for soft reflective lightning. A teak salon table offers dining for eight good appetisers. The table also folds down to allow easy passage.

The sleak designed windshield offers goo2 protection, and, combined wikth the easily set up sprayhood, it offers a totally dry forward part of the cockpit - against the sun as well, like a bimini top.

The trampolines offer a huge extra deck space, providing plenty of room for the dinghy while sailing as well as plenty of room for comfortable relaxation.

Maintenance

To inform and illustrate recommended service, maintenance, and refitting on an older Dragonfly, we have drawn this general information sheet. Rough elements, like strong winds and wave conditions, strong saltwater and UV do have some impact on the boat after a long sailing life.

We strongly recommend servicing and changing vital parts on your boat according to our recommendations. This information overrules any other former information you may have, as the following is based on updated knowledge.

RIGGING
Visual check of all cables is still required when changing the rigging. When trailering the boat, we strongly recommend focusing on side stay cables, as these easily bend when stepping the mast. Bended side stay cables near the terminal may cause the side stay cable to break.

On all Dragonflys, please regularly check the forestay cable in the top by the terminal. When furling, the spinnaker halyard may block the forestay, which can cause failure of the forestay.

TRAMOLINES
On all Dragonflys, we recommend re-stitching (sewing) along the seems of the trampolines every 6-7 years (in climates with strong UV, every 5 years). Normally, our clients change their trampolines after 10-12 years use.

FLOAT DECK TEFLON PAD RINGS
On Dragonflys built after 1989, the white 5 mm Teflon pad rings on the float deck need to be changed every 13-15 years – this is neither critical nor structural. For easy change of these pads/rings, you just bolt off the floats from the wings.

QUICK-LINKS
Over the years, Quorning Boats has used the riggings links, so-called Quick-Links, in the Dragonfly production. When replacing these, it is of utmost importance to purchase links of same high quality or similar products carrying same strength (working load). Many products look the same, but do not carry the same strength.

ORDERING PARTS
Original parts can be ordered at Quorning Boats at aftersales@dragonfly.dk

Common spare parts can be shipped within two weeks, whereas special parts and/or custom-made parts usually are served within 6-8 weeks.

For orders below EUR 100.- excl. VAT, we charge a handling fee of EUR 15.-

IMPORTANT
Parts ordered at Quorning Boats Denmark, will be produced in originally designed materials. Should you choose to order from other suppliers, please check that the same kind of materials are used – especially on the waterstays and other rigging parts, where stronger Dyeform cables are needed.

DRAGONFLY 1000 (built 1991-2002)
Waterstays – every 5 years, or by max 10,000 NM
Side stays and forestay – every 7 years, or by max 10,000 NM
Diamond spreader stays on the mast – every 15 years
Steering cables – every 5 years

Once a year, please check and tighten all bolts/nuts on the wing/beam stainless fittings.

We recommend changing the original stainless 16 mmm wing/beam pivot bolt to one of 18 mm (made of high-grade stainless steel). Later models have a standard 20 mm pivot bolt.

Dragonfly 1000 up to hull No 30
The inside chain plates for the waterstays are made in 6 x 40 mm galvanized steel. Over many years, this has shown some weakness due to corrosion combined with the fact that these boats over time are heavier than originally designed. Thus, structurally, we strongly recommend changing these chain plates to 8 x 40 mm stainless steel quality.

For the same reasons, we strongly recommend changing the smaller outside four waterstay hull chain plates, which originally was made of combined 6 and 12 mm stainless (welded). We recommend that these chain plates should be made in one solid 12 mm chain plate, and, installed with 3 x 12 mm strong quality bolts (A4/316 – strength 70 or 80).
